Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang once again came to Arsenal’s rescue on Sunday as he scored a last-minute winner against Aston Villa.
Arsenal, who were 1-0 down and down to 10 men at half-time, managed to bring it back to 2-2 thanks to goals from Nicolas Pepe and Calum Chambers.
But drawing wasn’t enough. If the Gunners were going to stay in touch with the top four, even at this early stage of the season, they needed all three points.
And that’s exactly what they got thanks to a stunning free-kick from Aubameyang with six minutes remaining.
From just outside the box, the 30-year-old lashed a strike into the right corner that gave goalkeeper Tom Heaton no chance.
Cue hysteria at the Emirates Stadium, with Aubameyang sprinting towards the corner flag to celebrate with the home supporters and his teammates.
Arsenal fans have had a lot to be frustrated by this season, especially the recent draw away to Watford, but moments like these make it all worth it.
And for one young Gunner inside the stadium, it was even more special.
Nine-year-old Mikey Poulli was born fully sighted but went blind at the age of 7 due to a rare eye disease.
Football has always been his passion and he hasn’t allowed his lack of sight to stop him from playing or going to Arsenal’s games.
The youngster posted a video of himself and his dad celebrating Aubameyang’s free-kick and it’s just lovely to watch.
And as if being at the Emirates for Aubameyang’s winner wasn’t good enough, Mikey received a reply from his hero on Twitter.
What an inspirational boy.
Mikey is currently training with England after being scouted in 2018 and he’s actually a very tidy player. Check out a video of him in action below.
